Obohemaa (2025)

Obohemaa means ‘’Queen of stones’’. 
It is the Adinkra symbol of appreciation and high esteem of what is rare and valuable, be it a thing or a person.
The Akan people represent it with a diamond because it is a highly rare and precious substance.
Red diamonds are the most rare of all diamonds. Therefore, these are two beings who are everything to each other.
I painted them with iridescent copper (which is a shade of red) because ancient Egyptians used the famous ‘’Ankh’’ symbol of eternal life to represent copper in hieroglyph.
In France, copper qualifies the 32nd wedding anniversary (noces de cuivre) to symbolize the durability and strength of the couple.
Therefore, this painting is a tribute to unique, powerful and everlasting love.
